Chapter 8
Equipment & IT
(Non-contractual policy.)
Company-Provided Equipment
ACT Acoustics provides the tools you need to do your job. Depending on your role, this may include:
- Laptop computer with necessary software (noise modelling, CAD, office applications)
- Sound level meters and associated calibrators
- Vibration meters
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) — hard hat, high-visibility vest, safety boots, ear defenders, eye protection
- Mobile phone or contribution towards business use of your own phone
All company equipment remains the property of ACT Acoustics and must be returned when your employment ends or when requested.
Looking After Equipment
You are expected to:
- Take reasonable care of company equipment.
- Keep measuring instruments clean, stored properly, and report any damage or malfunction immediately.
- Ensure sound level meters and vibration meters are sent for calibration when due (the company will arrange and pay for calibration).
- Not use company equipment for personal purposes unless you have permission.
- Not install unauthorised software on company laptops.
- Report any loss or theft of equipment immediately.
Data Security and IT Use
Passwords and Access
- Use strong, unique passwords for all work accounts.
- Do not share your login credentials with anyone.
- Lock your laptop when you step away from it, even at home.
Email and Internet
Company email and internet access are provided for business purposes. Reasonable personal use is permitted provided it does not interfere with your work, does not involve offensive or illegal material, and does not compromise data security.
Be aware that emails sent from your company address represent ACT Acoustics. Write them professionally.
Data Storage
- Store work files in the company’s shared system (Dropbox), not on your local hard drive alone.
- Do not store company data on personal USB drives, personal cloud services, or other unapproved locations.
- Take care when working in public places — do not leave confidential documents or data visible on your screen.
Personal Devices
If you use a personal device for any work purpose (for example, checking email on your phone), you must ensure it is password-protected and that you can remotely wipe company data if the device is lost or stolen.
